Remember that Disney Channel show with a family of wizards everyone wishes they were apart of and a super catchy theme song? The once wizarding daughter is now a chart topping pop star with a new take on life.

Selena Gomez has gone through a major “Revival” through the years.

The Album

“I dive into the future, but I’m blinded by the sun. I’m reborn in every moment, so who knows what I’ll become?” –Revival

Gomez released her second solo album Revival in October. She wrote, produced, and came up with a whole new sound. Her songs feature lyrics about self-discovery, confidence, love, change, and embracing your inner power. I have to say, I love her new unique sound. Camouflage is currently my personal favorite track.

Self-Love

Gomez has always been a pillar for young women to be confident and proud of who you are. As her fame with the new album began to rise, so did the body shaming. But, she didn’t sit back and let the hate win.

In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Gomez talks about paparazzi taking photos of her in a bathing suit in Mexico. They went on to post the photo saying she was fat and letting herself go and that her life was in shambles. To battle this hate, she shared her own photo saying she is happy with exactly who she is. After battling lupus, an autoimmune disease, and going through chemotherapy, she is happy and healthy and isn’t afraid to show it.

“Because look, I don’t want them to win. It’s so annoying when I see it all over the place and everybody thinks they can bring me down and so my immediate response was, I’m going to post a picture and that was going to be the story the next day.”

Selena has grown up in the spotlight, having to constantly deal with people judging her body, looks, and actions. She often says that she is still growing and maturing, but at 23 years old, I think she has come a long way and handles these difficult situations in a very adult way.

The Fashion Show

For anybody that watched the Victoria Secret Fashion show, you know that Selena Gomez slayed her performance for the Pink collection. She sang two songs from her album; Hands to Myself and Me and My Girls. She definitely looked like she was dancing around having a party with her girlfriends.

“I realize everybody wants what they don’t have. But at the end of the day, what you have inside is much more beautiful than what’s on the outside.”

I have to say I am impressed with Selena’s transformation from Disney Channel star to pop sensation and self-love promoter. Multiple new music videos, Pantene spokes gal, a new look, new sound, new tour, and new self-confidence. She stays grounded with her extreme love for her family and friends and strives to stay happy and spread love to the people who look up to her.

And one of my favorite things, she keeps it real. Telling interviewers of course her luscious hair is fake, and sharing a photo sitting backstage chowing down on some McDonald’s french fries. Selena’s revival is one to aspire to.
