We often forget that women and girls are not the only ones who develop low self-esteem in today’s society. Young boys have issues and struggles too. For instance, more than 40% of boys in middle school and high school feel the need to increase muscle mass in order to gain confidence. * Self Love Beauty strives to empower every individual to become their best self.
This is why we started the Mothers with Sons Series. This 3-part event brings mothers and their sons together to learn how to communicate with each other and encourage self-esteem and determination. We want them to develop confidence that is respectful and helps them accomplish their goals; continuing our mission to invest, impact and educate individuals on the importance of self-love and confidence in order to empower them to be the best versions of themselves.
Lisa Thompson, founder and CEO of Self Love Beauty, shared, “We created this series to empower these forgotten young men to have confidence in themselves and know that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. We also wanted to improve the communication between mothers and sons so that this impact will last their whole lives.”
This series was led by Self Love Beauty staff member and life coach, Sarah Weisbarth. Her expertise in connecting with others on a deeper level has guided her into working in programs for youths promoting self-worth and value. We also partnered with Trevor Szafranski, an elementary school teacher who founded Band of Brothers. This inspirational club brings young boys together to learn about integrity, honesty, treating others with kindness, and doing what is right. Trevor is also the CEO of R1SE, a before and after school facility aiming to ease the burden on parents while helping elementary and middle school students soar in education and personal growth.
We had more than a dozen mothers attend this series; each day pertaining to a different topic. Our first gathering, Tough Issues: Listen so they can talk!, focused on learning communication and listening skills between mothers and sons. The next meeting, Empowering Your Son, continued to teach the learning tools to empower good choices. Our last event, Confidence and Self-Esteem for Young Men, centered on coming together to encourage self-esteem and confidence that is respectful, kind and gives them opportunities to grow. Each participant left this series with more knowledge and understanding about boys and their struggles with self-esteem. These mothers walked away with tips to help their sons feel valued and heard.
Self Love Beauty is leading the way to educate everyone that self-love is inclusive for all ages and genders and this is why we plan to continue this series each year. to help mothers build communication skills with their sons. Our goal for this event is to help mothers grow in communication with their sons in order to impact their boys to be confident and ultimately have a stronger bond.
