Lead with STEM & Connection

Family Programs

Lead’s Family Programs builds and strengthens the bond and relationship between adult mentor and child and uses STEM to foster confidence and communication—all while helping youth explore different career options.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS

Our Lead with STEM & Connection Family Programs are designed to be inclusive, catering to youth between the ages of 6 and 18 and their parenting adult & mentor. We currently focus on the adult mentor and child relationship with Father/Daughters, Mother/Sons and Mother/Daughters with the goal of adding Father/Sons to the future. All attendees have a hands-on experience with STEM related activities and more.

Program Importance

According to the MiStem Advisory Council, 76% of Michigan adults see STEM education as crucial for young Michiganders to secure high-paying jobs. However, 36% of Michigan parents report their children lack any STEM learning opportunities, both in and out of school. To address this disparity, we launched our ‘Lead with STEM & Connection Family Programs’ to fulfill the unmet need for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. Our program aims to prepare the next generation for the workforce, specifically STEM fields while fostering family relationships, recognized as vital to children’s success.

The STEM fields are full of risk-takers and dreamers, those individuals with the confidence to try something new regardless of the result. In STEM, having a high level of confidence, resilience, and self-esteem are critical to facing the tribulations of exploring the unknown and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Our Programs:

  • Provide youth a supportive environment for experimentation and a toolkit of mental health resources to bounce back from setbacks and try again
  • Nurture confidence, encouraging curiosity and resilience in conquering challenges, which research shows significantly impacts STEM career decisions.
  • Foster self-sufficiency by empowering youth to initiate goals, overcome challenges, and make independent decisions through confidence-building activities.

It is critical that we empower our youth to have the strength to trust in themselves and their ability to achieve.
